When friends and I get together for a veggie potluck, we always entertain ourselves with anecdotes of people asking what we eat. When I have gone to company dinners or banquets, I’ve always requested ahead for vegetarian fare and have to suppress giggles when people look enviously at the bright array of steamed vegetables and fluffy brown rice on my plate instead of the dead animal carcass, wilted vegetables and potatoes on theirs.

Life beyond geekism

I am in awe of geeks.

And I use that phrase with a tremendous amount of respect.

I’m not a technological neophyte – I’ve got my head deep into Linux, assemble my own PCs, and understand firewalls to the level of packet filtering. I hang out on slashdot.org, and probably understand 95% of what I read.

Recently a woman approached me and told me her husband was diagnosed with a cholesterol count of 319. She said he was told to go on a vegetarian food program. She then told me that the she and the kids were upset about this change.
