The Food and Drug Administration has substantially broadened its recommendations to doctors on the use of aspirin to prevent heart attacks and strokes. For years, doctors have recommended daily aspirin for heart patients and those at risk, because studies support this practice (see Heart Watch, August 1997). The new recommendations should help guide doctors in prescribing aspirin for people with heart disease.
